Description

Developed in collaboration with Centro Promotor de Diseño and FONART, Mexican Textiles explored how co-design could support the development of contemporary products while preserving the knowledge and craftsmanship of traditional backstrap loom weaving.

Working alongside groups of 30 to 40 women artisans in rural communities across Mexico, the project combined collaborative workshops with product development to explore new applications for handwoven textiles. Rather than introducing predefined solutions, the workshops encouraged dialogue between designers and artisans, allowing new ideas to emerge from shared experience while respecting the cultural knowledge embedded in each woven piece.

By combining facilitation, co-design, and craftsmanship, the project demonstrates how design can become a collaborative process in which innovation grows from mutual learning rather than intervention..
